We are seeking a meticulous Design Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the design process, ensuring that all projects are executed with precision, meet quality standards, and remain competitively priced. The Design Manager will work closely with Quantity Surveyors, Design Teams, Project Managers, suppliers, and clients to deliver accurate and timely design solutions that support informed decision-making.

 

Role Description

  • Collaborate with consultants to develop supporting information and manage deliverables required for certification and compliance standards.
  • Act as Design Certifier on projects where required.
  • Support the Estimating and Proposal team by providing technical input for bids and tenders.
  • Develop and manage in-house drafting and BIM capabilities.
  • Lead the design development process for off-site and modular construction projects.
  • Chair regular design team meetings and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
  • Appoint and manage external design consultants and specialists.
  • Agree and maintain design information schedules and deliverables.
  • Monitor progress to ensure key project milestones and deadlines are achieved.
  • Liaise regularly with clients, stakeholders, architects, consultants, manufacturing teams, and construction teams.
  • Manage specialist subcontractor design teams and coordinate their deliverables.
  • Engage with local authorities and statutory bodies to support planning and regulatory approvals.
  • Review design information to ensure buildability, compliance with project requirements, budget constraints, and current building regulations.
  • Identify and implement value engineering opportunities where appropriate.
  • Proactively resolve design and coordination issues.
  • Oversee the timely delivery of detailed design information to support procurement and construction activities throughout the pre-construction and delivery phases.

Candidate Requirements

  • Degree-qualified Architect.
  • Membership of a relevant professional architectural body.
  • Chartered status preferred.
  • Proven experience in timber frame, modular, or off-site construction is essential.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, planning, and problem-solving skills, with a proactive and positive approach.
  • Demonstrated success in a Design Coordination or Design Management role, or experience as a Senior/Associate Architect seeking a move into project delivery and construction.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Excellent attention to detail, technical knowledge, and understanding of construction methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of current building regulations and industry standards.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
