The Opportunity
Join a forward-thinking company specialising in commercial solar PV fitouts as a Solar Project Development Engineer. In this role, youβll assess the technical feasibility of solar photovoltaic installations, lead design and engineering efforts, and oversee the safe and efficient delivery of solar energy projects. This is a hands-on engineering opportunity combining fieldwork, system design, quality control, and stakeholder coordination.
Key Responsibilities
π Site Evaluation & Feasibility
Conduct on-site assessments to evaluate proposed locations for PV installations
Analyse energy audits and regulatory requirements to determine project viability
Perform site risk assessments and recommend mitigation measures
βοΈ System Design & Engineering
Design solar PV systems using engineering software, generating accurate layouts and configurations
Select system components tailored to site conditions and project goals
Interpret simulation results to estimate system performance and energy generation
π Project Planning & Oversight
Develop and manage project schedules, documentation, and technical deliverables
Monitor active projects, proposing changes to stay within budget, scope, and timeline
Liaise with internal teams, subcontractors, and regulatory authorities throughout project lifecycle
Oversee site activities, including scaffolding, installation, and compliance checks
β Quality & Safety Assurance
Conduct quality inspections during installation to ensure adherence to design specs
Review test results for PV and grounding systems
Support SOP development for quality assurance and health & safety
Perform site safety audits and ensure compliance with H&S regulations
Qualifications & Experience
π Education & Background
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
3β5 yearsβ experience in the solar PV industry, ideally with projects exceeding 200 kW
Experience in distributed generation, commercial, or utility-scale PV design and construction
NABCEP certification is a plus
π οΈ Technical Skills
Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
Skilled in solar simulation tools such as PVSyst, PVSol Premium, Helioscope, Pylon, or PVcase
Strong understanding of technical specs, construction documents, and project governance
π€ Soft Skills & Other Requirements
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Highly organised with strong attention to detail
Self-motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a team
Full driving licence preferred
Willingness to occasionally work outdoors on project sites
