The Solar PV Project Development Engineer is responsible for assessing the technical feasibility of solar photovoltaic (PV) installations by analyzing site conditions, reviewing energy audits, and overseeing engineering designs. This role combines technical evaluation, design, quality control, and project coordination to ensure successful deployment of solar energy systems for residential, commercial, or utility-scale applications.
Key Responsibilities:
Site Evaluation and Feasibility
Conduct on-site audits to evaluate the suitability of proposed locations for PV systems
Review energy audits and assessments to determine project viability and regulatory compliance
Perform risk assessments and propose mitigation measures for project sites
System Design and Engineering
Design solar PV systems using engineering software to create accurate layouts and electrical configurations
Select system components based on site conditions, project goals, and technical feasibility
Review and interpret computer simulations to estimate energy generation and system performance
Project Planning and Oversight
Develop and maintain project schedules and technical documentation
Evaluate progress of active projects and propose adjustments to stay within scope, budget, and timeline
Liaise with internal teams, contractors, and regulatory authorities throughout project development
Oversee site activities including installation, scaffolding, and contractor compliance with safety and design standards
Quality and Safety Assurance
Conduct quality inspections during installation to ensure compliance with design and commercial requirements
Review test results for PV and grounding systems
Support the development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for quality control and site safety
Perform site safety inspections and ensure all work is conducted according to relevant health and safety standards
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience)
3–5 years of experience in the solar PV industry, with preference for experience in systems >200 kW
Experience with distributed generation, commercial, and utility-scale solar PV design and construction
NABCEP certification is a plus
Technical Skills
Proficiency with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and solar simulation tools such as PVSyst, PVSol Premium, Helioscope, Pylon, or PVcase
Strong understanding of technical specifications, construction documentation, and project governance principles
Soft Skills & Other Requirements
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Highly organized and detail-oriented
Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team
Full driver’s license preferred
Willingness to work occasionally outdoors on installation sites
