Job Description

Design Manager 

Lead the design and BIM delivery of complex construction projects, managing multidisciplinary teams from concept through to construction. Drive design coordination, technical compliance, BIM implementation, and continuous improvement while ensuring high-quality, efficient project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design process from concept through construction across multiple projects.
  • Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary design team, allocating workload and providing technical guidance.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, consultants, suppliers, and clients to ensure successful design delivery.
  • Oversee the integration of architectural, structural, MEP, and manufacturing disciplines.
  • Ensure compliance with building regulations, planning requirements, and statutory standards.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in design and BIM processes.
  • Lead BIM implementation and maintain compliance with ISO 19650 standards.
  • Coordinate external audits and support BIM accreditation.
  • Review and approve design drawings, specifications, schedules, and BIM models.
  • Identify design risks, resolve clashes, and ensure technical issues are addressed early.
  • Support value engineering while maintaining quality, compliance, and buildability.
  • Collaborate with pre-construction teams on technical reviews and construction planning.
  • Ensure designs are suitable for manufacturing, transport, and installation.
  • Promote best practice, quality standards, and continuous process improvement.

Requirements

  • Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Professional accreditation desirable.
  • BIM certification advantageous.
  • Working knowledge of Revit, Tekla, and Navisworks.
  • 10+ years' experience in construction design.
  • Previous experience managing and mentoring teams.
  • Experience coordinating ISO 19650 or similar quality audits desirable.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability and commercial awareness.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
